The project
The overall aim of the Swedish Wolverine Project is to conduct research that will provide solid knowledge of wolverine ecology, to facilitate science-based management and conservation of wolverines in Scandinavia.
This project is a long-term individual-based study on wolverine ecology, which provides a unique opportunity to investigate population dynamics, life history, and behavioural ecology of wolverines. We use this opportunity to answer general ecological questions that are also needed for management of carnivore conflicts in general, and in reindeer husbandry areas in particular.
Currently, our project focuses on the following themes:
• Habitat ecology and demography - mechanisms explaining spatial variation in the density of these populations;
• Population dynamics and consequences of management action
• Interactions between wolverine, lynx and a common prey, the reindeer.
• Spatial and social ecology and its consequences for population dynamics at different scales.
• In addition, we conduct studies for validation and development of wolverine population surveys.
On this website you will find information about the research conducted by the Swedish Wolverine Project, our study area, publications from the project, funders of the project and links to relevant websites. Soon you will also find brief information about wolverine ecology and literature about wolverine ecology. See menu on top of this page for further information.
